Physical Education & Sports

At Kamaroi, children participate in at least two hours of physical activity each week.

Program

Skills, games
& sports.

As well as an organised program of skills, games and sports, we have extensive grounds with space for ball games and boulders for clambering, along with sandpits and play equipment within the natural environment. Our multipurpose playing fields are used for sports such as basketball, soccer and baseball. Skipping, hopscotch, handball and other traditional games are actively encouraged.

Classes 1–6 are taught by a sports teacher in a weekly 40 minute session. Class 2 and Class 3 participate in an external swimming program each year.

As with all elements of our integrated curriculum, the games and sport align with Main Lesson themes as well as the child’s developmental needs. In Class 5 for example, while studying Ancient Greece, the children participate in a re-created Greek Olympics with other Steiner Schools, competing in discus, javelin, long jump, running and wrestling.

Sport is taught with an emphasis on 'self-competition' rather than competing against one another. Social skills in games are a strong focus—the children are guided in developing their ability to be honest, fair, tactful and co-operative. Within the safety of their class group, the children are able to develop their physical capabilities, alongside their social and emotional resources to participate in physical activity in a confident, engaged and positive manner.
